SPANISH I (Grades 10-12)

(Online Course through Northern State University)                      

 Elective        1 Credit

Designed to introduce students to Spanish language and culture, the Spanish I course emphasize basic grammar and syntax, simple vocabulary, and the spoken accent so that students can read, write, speak, and understand the language at a basic level within predictable areas of need, using customary courtesies and conventions. Spanish culture is introduced through the art, literature, customs, and history of Spanish-speaking people.

 

SPANISH II (Grades 11-12)

Prerequisite = Spanish I                       

Elective        1 Credit

Spanish II courses build upon skills developed in Spanish I, extending students’ ability to understand and express themselves in Spanish and increasing their vocabulary. Typically, students learn how to engage in discourse for informative or social purposes, write expressions or passages that show understanding of sentence construction and the rules of grammar, and comprehend the language when spoken slowly. Students usually explore the customs, history, and art forms of Spanish-speaking people to deepen their understanding of the culture(s).

 

 Native American Studies (Grades 10-12)

Elective        ½ Credit           (2nd Semester)

This course will focus primarily on the Oceti Sakowin through inquiry-based investigations of history, culture, government, literature, art, and more. Additional areas of focus include historical and contemporary analyses of Tribal Nations across the US.

 

Physics (Grades 11-12)

(Online Course through Northern State University)     

Prerequisite = Chemistry  + “C” or better in Algebra II                      

Elective        1 Credit

This is a college-prep physics course with a problem-solving component requiring an Algebra II level of mathematics preparation and will include basic trigonometry (taught in the course). The topics to be covered in the first semester are Measurements, Mechanics, and Circular and Rotational Motion. The topics to be covered in the second semester are Electricity and Magnetism, Wave Motion, Thermodynamics, and Modern Physics.

 

AP ENGLISH LITERATURE AND COMPOSITION IV (Grade 12)

Elective        1 Credit

AP English is an accelerated course designed to prepare students to take the Advanced Placement English Exam in the spring, high scores on which are accepted for credit as Freshman English by most colleges.  The rigorous course encompasses language, literature, and composition. Interested students may qualify through the placement/screening test and obtain instructor and principal approval. Students must pay for their AP English Exam if they choose to take it.
