CHS Superintendent’s Award …
Emily Shepherd is the daughter of Bill and Kala Shepherd. When I visited with Emily, she attributed her success in high school to the support of her parents, her teachers, and hard work.
I asked if she had any advice for incoming freshman, and she said don’t slack your freshman year and then expect to get your GPA up later on. You have to put in the work right from the start. Setting goals for yourself helps!
Her plans for after graduation are attending SDSU, majoring in Nursing.
I asked what her favorite book was and she too had a hard time narrowing it down. One of her favorites is Little Women. Her mom used to read it to her and her sister when they were little. She has since read it 5 times.

CMS 8th Grade Superintendent’s Award …
Brooklyn Toupal is the daughter of Bill and Kari Toupal. When I interviewed her, I asked her who or what she gives credit to for being successful through Middle School. Immediately, she said her parents and then added that her teachers also played a big part in her success.
Advice that she has for incoming Middle Schoolers is to study, respect your teachers, and get involved in activities.
The things she is looking forward to in High School are the privileges that you can earn, socializing with kids from other grades, and she also commented that she was fortunate that she was able to get a HS Math class and a HS Science class completed while she was in Middle School.
I asked her what her favorite book is and she had a really hard time narrowing it down to just one so she went with a favorite author which is Colleen Hoover, she said her writing is amazing!

After assessing several of the bus routes, we have found that roads are still ice covered and driving conditions, even for experienced drivers, are dangerous. Chamberlain School District will again have a Virtual Snow Day today, April 5, 2023. Stay home and stay safe everyone.
